My Self Care Resolutions for 2021

As 2020 has finally come to a close, I've been finding myself reflecting, writing and setting new goals for myself, more than ever before. Something about 2021 seems unwritten, exciting and promising (I hope). Something most of us had a little more of this year was time to ourselves and time at home. Self care became part of my routine, and is a part of 2020 I actually want to bring into my 2021.

So, with that being said, here is my 2021 Self Care Resolutions. And NO, these are not my only New Years resolutions, those are tucked away in my journal. Simply put, a short list of things I want to either keep or bring into my daily routine this year, selfishly. Because sometimes, being selfish is the easiest way you can be the best version of yourself for others.


Journaling & Manifesting

For awhile, I considered the concept of journaling and manifesting to be a weird trend. However, a few weeks ago, I got myself a plain journal and since have been reflecting and writing anything I want. I've been learning more about manifesting and the idea of putting what you want in life out for the universe to hear, and its been therapeutic and helpful. I reflected on 2020 and wrote what I wanted for myself this coming year, what I would leave behind and new habits I wanted to create. I'm excited to continue this journal in 2021, and I think its something anyone reading this should consider doing as well.

Putting Sunscreen on Each Morning

My best friend Christina knows what she's talking about when it comes to skincare. I find myself going to her with questions of products to try and add to my routine. I never truly realized the importance of a good skincare routine until I started living with her, and saw for myself that it was. Something she does daily, that I took notice to, is applying a SPF to her face every morning. She told me it doesn't matter if she leaves the house, if it's snowing or sunny out. SPF can come in through windows and even on the darkest of days. With her recommendation (of course), I got a daily SPF to put on after I wash my face each morning. This is a habit I want to start early, and that I think I'll be thankful for later.

In the summer I always enjoy reading a book or two, but once fall semester begins I always seem to forget the book I was in the middle of or just stop reading anything other than my textbook. It can be hard, when life gets busy to prioritize reading when you can call a friend, watch reality TV or I don't know, bake? In 2021 I want to push myself to pick up a book a few times a week, take a break from my phone & homework, and read.

Chlorophyll Water

This is actually something I incorporated into my routine a few months ago, and I'm glad I did! In the morning with breakfast I have a glass of water and add in a few drops of liquid chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has many benefits such as blood detoxification, odor control, wound healing, gut health, energy, immune system support and cancer prevention. It has a little bit of a minty taste to it, but is nothing as strong as drinking let's say, apple cider vinegar. I like to start my mornings off with a lot of water, so this is a great way to do it!

Pajama Sets

Something about wearing a pajama set is empowering to me. I feel so much more put together when I go to bed and when I wake up in the morning. I have noticed that by doing so I feel much more organized and motivated. When you look good, you feel good, right? This is a change that might seem materialistic or unnecessary, but I would have to disagree. A. pajama set seriously makes me feel like I have my life together and can do anything I want, and all it's only pajamas.

Lemon Water

This one is super simple, but necessary. Lemon water is SO good & has so many benefits. It's so easy to incorporate this into your daily routine, yet sometimes I'm literally too lazy to cut up lemons & infuse them in my water (LOL). Also, hot lemon water is GREAT to drink in the morning before you have breakfast, it really kick starts your digestion and wakes you up. 10/10 recommend, and I need to do it more often.


I'm the first to admit I seriously love my Spotify playlists and car rides. But, I've noticed that once I listen to a podcast I seem to always feel uplifted and motivated afterwards. So, in 2021 I want to really push myself to listen to them more. Podcasts about going after your goals, health and wellness, advice and just reflecting on life - specifically.

Getting Outside

Especially when school picks back up again, I need to remind myself how important it is to get outside and go for walks and get fresh air. Some days, being an online student because of COVID, me and my roommates find ourselves in our own apartment bubble. Going for walks outside is a good way to catch up with a friend, think and get some exercise. My goal is 3-4 outdoor walks a week. Maybe more.

Drink Tea

As silly as this one might sound, it's true. Growing up I have never really loved tea, and I want to change that. Something about enjoying a nice hot cup of tea before bed seems so peaceful and I am determined to bring this energy into 2021. Please feel free to contact me with tea recommendations that don't taste completely like grass.


As I explained earlier, I didn't have much of a skin care routine until this year. Now that I do, I can genuinely say I notice a difference in the overall appearance and feeling of my skin. It has made me feel more confident. I want to push myself this year to learn more about skin care, and the proper products for a really great morning and night routine. Taking care of your skin is important for now and later in life - and I'm all about it.

Skincare I want to try this year (AKA send recommendations)

  • Vitamin C serum

  • Under eye cream (I've heard that they don't do anything, but still can't figure it out completely)

  • A morning vs night cream

Theres always going to be new aspects of my life I want to work on or change, but I think this is a good start. Taking care of yourself & wanting to feel good in your own skin is NOTHING to be ashamed of. What you think about yourself and how you talk to yourself matters.
